Teeth Whitening Treatments and Options – What are the Facts?

Teeth Whitening Treatments and Options

Choosing teeth whitening products amidst the different teeth whitening products available in the market today can be very confusing. And some of the teeth whitening products are not giving you the desired result.

Teeth whitening through a dentist is still considered to be the best teeth whitening method. A dentist will definitely be able to give you the whitest teeth in the shortest time.

However a big consideration for most people are the high fees associated with such procedures. Fear of seeing a dentist may be another reason people don’t like this option. For most people, going to the dentist is probably the last thing they would like to do.

Though you don’t normally find Dentists promoting teeth whitening products, I’m sure most would agree that they do work. According to studies, teeth whitening products, if used regularly and consistently can result in whiter teeth that can outlast any dentist-assisted procedure.

Possibly the reason why, is that many of the treatments now available over the counter have the same ingredients as products used by professional services. The two active ingredients in all of these types of whitening products are carbamide and the bleaching agent hydrogen peroxide These two are also the ingredients that are present in some of the products that are sold in groceries and drug stores.

Probably the main advantage of teeth whitening products are that they are so much cheaper than using a professional service. The affordability means that teeth whitening is now within the anyone’s reach and they can just pick it up with their basic shopping.

$30 or less is the common price for such products now days. Just compare that to the usual $100 or more charged by Dentist and other professional services and you can see why this is becoming the preferred choice for tooth whitening

There are also disadvantages with in home teeth whitening solutions. Consider the following:

1. Many different Options.

Most products try to please everyone. But then different people have different needs. What one person finds effective may not work for others. This is probably the biggest problem some people encounter. Finding the best product that works well for them.

There are a lot of people who have sensitive teeth and gums Some people will react to product ingredients so each product should be measured against the individuals tolerance. An option would be to try different products until you find the one that is suitable to you.

2. Strong chemicals used

Not everyone is as tolerant to the chemical ingredients and some can have an allergic reaction. And since you most probably don’t have specialist knowledge that dentists do you may not know what to look for if you have sensitive teeth.

If you are unsure it is better to check with your dentist first.

3. The tray doesn’t fit.

The tray that comes with the product which you need to fit to your teeth comes in only one size. So it may in all likely hood be either too large or too small. If the tray is too large the teeth whitening procedure wont work as well. When the tray is too small, your gums can become red and irritated. They may bleed and you could have further problems.

Be sure that the teeth whitening process you choose is suited for you. If nothing seems to work then you may want to try a professional teeth whitening treatment.
